Data Hub

The Data Hub will collate and curate TBI research data at scale. We will integrate this effort with existing infrastructure by establishing TBI-REPORTER as a node in the Dementias Platform UK (DPUK) Trusted Research Environment within the framework of the UK Secure electronic Research Platform (UK SeRP), and work with Health Data Research UK (HDRUK) to establish linkage with existing UK datasets.  Close collaboration with DPUK will allow seamless adoption of data pipelines to access large datasets and linkage to international partners through the International Initiative for TBI Research (InTBIR).

Overview

The TBI-REPORTER Data Hub is designed as a dedicated, theme specific node within the highly successful Dementias Platform UK (DPUK) Data Portal (https://portal.dementiasplatform.uk/), which operates within the UK Secure eResearch Platform (UKSeRP; https://serp.ac.uk/) housed at Swansea University. The Data Hub provides a unique, open and globally accessible environment to accelerate TBI research at relatively low cost with:

  • economies of shared storage of very large data sources;
  • confidence that the project is embedded within existing, high-quality, demonstrably effective research infrastructure;
  • rapid, relatively easy access to multi-modal test and replication data for investigators;
  • acceleration of science via community cataloguing of modular protocols and regulatory submission text;
  • providing a repository for analysis scripts; promoting open, transparent science;
  • integration and discoverability of TBI-REPORTER clinical and biomarker datasets, including those generated under the Experimental Medicine Platform.

The TBI-REPORTER Data Hub operates exclusively as a data processor, according to the UK Data Protection Act 2018 and EU General Data Protection Regulation 2016 and provides an extant, fully auditable, remote access ‘sandbox’ trusted research environment (TRE) facilitating data analysis via a virtual desktop (VMWare). This includes multiple statistical and data management packages (including multi-omic and raw scan processing) alongside the capability to integrate bespoke analysis tools.
