Who can Access the Data Portal?

All bona fide researchers can use TBI-Reporter for health-related research that is in the public interest. A bona fide researcher is defined as a person with the professional expertise to conduct bona fide research; and who has formal affiliation with a bona fide research organisation that complies with appropriate research governance and management systems. PhD and higher education students must list their sponsors/supervisors as the lead researcher and themselves as a co-applicant in the application form.

Submit Application

Complete the online application form. Please ensure you have have reviewed and follow the Application Guidance and our technical document before proceeding.  Please ensure that you enter the appropriate Project End Date, this needs to be a realistic date that allows for the below timelines, for your work with the data and thereafter time to finalise your analysis for any publication requirements. While extensions can be sought this may be applicable to cost recovery fees.

Scientific Triage

The application will then be reviewed to ensure that the guidance has been abided by and is viable application to consider

AI/ML Triage

Should your application include AI or ML work, we will require additional information from you. In this instance, it is also advised that you review the following report which we align with AI Models on complex sensitive healthcare data, before submitting your application.

Commercial Triage

 We welcome application from both all areas, for those deriving from industry we require additional information to be submitted which includes the applicants CV’s.

Variable selection

On successful navigation through the triage requirements, our team will then ask you to complete a variable selection sheet for each of the dataset you have selected in the application form.

Data Guardian Approval

Your application and variable selection sheet(s) are then circulated to each of the data owner/controllers named on your data access application.

The data controller may ask you to clarify parts of your application. The data controller for each dataset will then approve or decline your request for data access. Decisions are expected within 28 days, but may vary depending on the access procedures of each datasets committee.

Data Access Agreement

Following a successful application, you are required to sign the DPUK Data Portal & Associated Hubs Data Access Agreement (DAA). This agreement will be signed by both the users and their associated organisation prior to access to the of data. Publication Policy surrounding use of the data can be found via the adjacent buttons.

Access to the Portal

You will then gain access to cohort data via a two-factor authentication, combining traditional username and password with an Authenticator app (an application that can be used on a mobile device to encrypt the password given to you). You will then be able to get started on your analysis of the data.

As the analysis platform is housed within a separate remote desktop, it will appear as a window on your personal host computer. Data cannot be downloaded from the analysis platform. Summary tables for the purposes of reporting may be downloaded following additional approval system.
