Lay summary – Meningiomas are the most common type of primary brain tumour, and some patients have seizures before or after surgery. These seizures can affect quality of life, delay a return to driving or work, and may be difficult to control with medication. This review looks at why meningiomas may cause seizures, including possible roles for brain irritation, swelling and inflammation. It also highlights the need for better ways to identify patients at higher risk, so they can be monitored more closely or offered preventive treatment in future.
