Lay summary – After a serious traumatic brain injury in a child, doctors often monitor and treat pressure inside the skull, known as intracranial pressure, because high pressure can damage the brain and affect recovery. Managing this pressure is therefore a key part of intensive care for children with moderate to severe brain injuries. However, the pressure levels currently used to guide treatment are not based on strong evidence specifically from children. This means more research is needed to understand the safest and most effective treatment thresholds for paediatric traumatic brain injury.
