The TBI-REPORTER, a hub within the Dementias Platform (DP)UK Data Portal SeRP tenancy, has won the Global Impact award at a Neuro Rehab (NR) Times annual ceremony.
TBI-REPORTER brings together Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) data and bio-samples to make them more accessible for researchers and scientists. TBI REPORTER also aims to ‘establish a network of centres across the UK to support clinical trials of novel treatments.’
NR Times is on online magazine with features covering brain, spinal injuries and neuro conditions to ‘inform and inspire all professionals involved in the care of people with brain and spinal conditions.’
The winners were announced at the second annual online ceremony that took place on 29th November 2024 which brought together brain and spinal injury rehab specialists from the UK and US. Sponsored by Elysium Healthcare, the awards ‘shine a light on excellence in a wide range of categories, representing the many factors which influence the neuro-rehab journey.’
The UK-TBI REpository and data PORTal Enabling discoveRy (TBI-REPORTER) platform operates as a SeRP Hub inside the DPUK Data Portal – a hosted Trusted Research Environment (TRE) that benefits from the DPUK Data Portal’s security, infrastructure, and governance, without the operational and financial costs of operating a full TRE.
The TBI-REPORTER consists for three principal strands: A Data Hub that collates data for TBI research, a Biomarkers Resource to collect bio-samples and neuroimaging data for analysis, and an Experimental Medicine Network of ‘research-ready sites’ for translational research.

We are also grateful to our funders: the MRC, NIHR, Ministry of Defence, with particular recognition of Alzheimer’s Research UK – who have shown great foresight as a dementia/neurodegeneration charity in recognising the need to fund research on the long-term outcomes of TBI.”
TBI-REPORTER is funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC) and is collaboration with University of Cambridge, University of Glasgow, University of Sheffield, Imperial College London, Swansea University. TBI-REPORTER engages with the public, patients, and their families through the UK Acquired Brain Injury Forum (UKABIF).
