Lay summary – Traumatic brain injury and repeated head impacts may increase the risk of brain diseases later in life. This link has been highlighted by research into contact sports and conditions such as motor neurone disease, also known as ALS. However, it is still unclear whether TBI in the wider community is linked to a higher risk of ALS.
